Why did we build Pause?

AI agents can successfully run companies.

As a software startup, we want to hand off as many tasks as possible to agents to reduce load on our engineers.

But browser-use agents, OpenClaw and other agentic apps can't complete everything that an engineer needs to do.

We wanted to create a tool to handle any agent-able tasks such as coding, customer support, on-calls. It give us tasks which cannot be completed by AI such as big decisions, user testing and debugging.

That way, given today's technology, we're maximizing the use of AI and minimizing the use of humans while acknowledging the limitations of AI.

Our solution is Pause: a tool where agents give humans tasks instead of the other way around.

It's sort of an experiment. It's also the reality we live in.
We hope you enjoy it and let us know what you think.

Philosophy

  1. Make our app automate everything that doesn't need human attention. E.g., Don't bother a human with mundane bug fixes and customer replies, but consult a human if there's a big decision that will affect the company.
  2. Don't try to replace tools that already exist, they're always better at the tool than whatever we can build. E.g., Don't build a new email client, just do the bare minimum to get the job done and anything else, open with Gmail.
